WICHITA — Dale Lehning, 77, passed away June 24, 2016. He grew up and went to school in Hoisington. He joined the Navy after graduating high school and served from 1956 to 1959 before attending Wichita State University for three years. He returned to his hometown to run his father’s Buick dealership for a time before coming back to Wichita and working for Universal Adjustment Company. He then bought a salvage yard, A-One Auto Salvage. He was appointed to a board by the U.S. Attorney General to track stolen parts and was a past president of both the Wichita Recyclers Association and the Kansas Recyclers Association.
Mr. Lehning was a member of the Kansas Dealers Review Board. Dale was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who will be dearly missed.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Sandra; two sons, Shaun (Tina) Lehning and Mike (Shannon) Lehning; a daughter, Maria (Kerry) Whitehair; two sisters, Lela Mae Daymond and Judy (Vern) Just; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Emma; a sister, Janice Toole; and a son, Hal R. Lehning.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 30, at Ascension Lutheran Church. Burial will be at 1 p.m. on Friday at Hoisington Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Resthaven Mortuary. Memorials may be made to Ascension Lutheran Church.
