Dale Wilson Ballard 1920-2011

LYONS — Dale Wilson Ballard, 91, died Sept. 28 at the Rice County District Hospital in Lyons.
He was born May 27, 1920 in Beloit, the son of Clinton Myrl Ballard Sr. and Lela May Wilson Ballard.
On April 18, 1941, he married Marjorie Clare Grant in Beloit. She died on Oct. 26, 1990. A resident of Lyons since 2004, formerly of Ellinwood, he was a retired farmer.
Mr. Ballard was a United States Army veteran, serving in World War II and the Korean War. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Post No. 1187, Veterans of Foreign Wars, all in Ellinwood, and the Ellinwood Lions Club.
Survivors include a daughter, Margaret and husband Mark Chain, Lyons; two granddaughters, Jeannie and husband Brian Unruh, Louisburg; and Christie Flynn and husband Tom, Andover; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marjorie; two daughters, Kathleen Ann and Judith Clare; three brothers, Clinton Myrl Jr., Virgil Wayne and Billie Dean Ballard; and a grandson, Matthew John Chain.
An Altar Society rosary is scheduled at 3 p.m. Friday followed by a 7 p.m. vigil service at the Kimple Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 1 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Ellinwood with Father Charles Mazouch officiating. Burial will be at the Lakin Comanche Cemetery in Ellinwood. Friends may visit from 1 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30 at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Good Samaritan Society in Lyons or St. Joseph’s Living Legacy Fund.
