MIDLAND, Texas — Daniel John Leiker went to be with his Lord on Saturday, Dec. 20th. Born Dec. 2, 1928, in Russell, he was the son of Daniel Alexander Leiker and Hilda Weigel. On June 7, 1949, he married Joyce Marie Ewald in Ellinwood. He worked for Northern Natural Gas for over 39 years as a plant supervisor in Kansas and Kermit, Texas before retiring in Midland, Texas in 1986. He loved repairing car engines and carpentry work, even making his sons’ toy trucks. His grandkids and great-grandkids could always depend on Grandpa Dan for quarters to fill their piggy banks. He loved polka dancing and old-time waltz music.
He was devoted to his Catholic faith and was a life-time member of the Knights of Columbus at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Joyce; three sons, Merle and wife, Christine of Midland, Texas, Loren and wife, Cathy of McKinney, Texas, and Gary of Lubbock, Texas; four brothers; two sisters; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Louise; parents; three brothers; and two sisters.
Funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. today at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church. Grave site services will follow at Serenity Gardens. Visitation was held on Monday at Nalley-Pickle and Welch Funeral Home in Midland, Texas, with a rosary at the funeral home chapel. Online condolences can be made at www.npwelch.com.
