FRIONA, Texas — Darrel Lloyd Smith, D.V.M., 79, passed on Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2022 in Friona, Texas after a long illness. At his request, there will be no services. Cremation arrangements by Hansard Family Funeral Home of Friona.
Darrel was born in Hays, Kan. on Nov. 16, 1942 to Francis and Marjorie (Tustin) Smith. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in Bainbridge, Maryland. Darrel was baptized on Jan. 14, 2022 and became a born again Christian. He was an achiever in many ways through the many jobs he had performed during his lifetime. His greatest achievement was earning his degree in Veterinary Medicine at Kansas State University graduating in 1976. He had a gift in treating animals in the feedlots where he worked. He loved all animals, big and small. He practiced veterinary medicine across the U.S. and finally retired in Friona, Texas.
Darrel was proceeded in death by his parents and brother Stanley Smith. Darrel left behind his companion of 21 years, Inge Prince of Friona, Texas; children Darrel Q. (Ana) Smith and Darren Smith, all of Las Vegas, Nev., Annette McClure of Aurora, Neb., Kelly (Rick) Skillett and Kevin (Winona) Smith all of Lincoln, Neb.; their children and grandchildren; brothers Gene (Cindy) Smith Jr., of Great Bend, Kan., Robert Smith of Litchfield Park, Ariz.; and his sister Kathy (David) Chavez of Avondale, Ariz.; and many extended family members.
