WICHITA/LARNED — Darrell Dee (Sonny) Knight, 85, passed away Oct. 22 at the Veterans Administration Hospice in Wichita. Born in Garden City, Aug. 21, 1925, to Harold H. Knight, Sr. and Wanda (Holmes) Knight, He graduated from Pawnee Rock High School where he grew up spending considerable time with his special grandmother Maude Holmes.

Mr. Knight was a member of Nobles of the Mystic Shrine, Galveston, Texas, and a Navy veteran of World War II.

He traveled the United States and numerous foreign countries while installing instrumentation in oil refineries. He mostly resided in California and Texas, returning to his Kansas roots in retirement. Darrell was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Neva Jean (Meeker) Knight, mother of his children; second wife, Doreen (Bardwell) Knight; daughter, Diane Warren (2008); half brothers, Harold Knight, Jr., Bill Knight and Norman Knight; and stepfather, Bill Hanks. He is survived by daughters, Deborah Ursazong, San Diego, Calif., and Dee Dee Wheeler, Claremore, Okla.; a son, Darren (Susan) Knight, Lomita, Calif.; son-in-law, Tracy Warren, Palmdale, Calif.; grandchildren, Carolyn, Casey, Cathy, Caitlin, Jennifer (Christian) Eggert and Angela (Michael) McLean; two stepgrandchildren, Wayne Nimitz and Justin Mark; great-grandchildren, Nathan, Jackson, Noah, Grant, Blake, Sean, Abby and Kayge; a half brother, Harlyn (Norma) Knight, Wichita; a sister-in-law, Janice Knight, Joplin, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Pawnee Rock Cemetery, Pawnee Rock, with Pastor Dennis Scheibmeir presiding. Military honors will be conducted. No visitation is planned. Personal condolences may be left at www.morellfuneralhomellc.com.
