David Michael “Mike” Johnson, 72, died Oct. 30 at Almost Home Inc., Great Bend. He was born Nov. 25, 1941, at Denison, Texas, the son of Doug and Woodie (Pritchard) Johnson. He married Peggy Temple April 28, 1962, at Borger, Texas. He founded M and M Equipment in 1975, retiring in December 2012.
Mr. Johnson was a long-time Great Bend resident, previously residing in Phillips, Texas, Odessa, Texas, and Enid, Okla.
He was a member of A. F. & A. M. Lodge No. 15, Isis Shrine, Western Kansas Chapter of American Petroleum Institute, Kansas Oil and Gas Museum Foundation, and Past Oilfield Division Chairman of United Way of Central Kansas.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; one son, Mike K. Johnson and his wife Linda of Great Bend; two sisters, Tommie Hale of Fritch, Texas, and Phyllis Hicks of Sherman, Texas; one brother, Doug Johnson of Jackson, Miss.; and two grandsons, Chad Johnson of Great Bend and Kyle Johnson and his wife Caitlyn of Casper, Wyo.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 3, at First Christian Church in Great Bend with the Rev. Joshua Leu officiating. Burial with Masonic graveside rites will be in Great Bend Cemetery. Friends may call from 1-9 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m., Sunday, at Bryant Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to Almost Home Inc., a residential end of life care facility, in care of the funeral home.
