NEWTON — David W. Morris, 63, of Newton, died Thursday, Nov. 8, 2018 in Wichita, Kan. He was born Dec. 7, 1954, in Arkansas City, Kan. to Carol and Roberta (Coleman) Morris. He was married to Carla (Gillen) Morris; they had one child, Matthew Levi Morris.
David was a life long railroader. He hired on to the Santa Fe railroad in 1973 and stayed with the line until his retirement in 2014.
He was affiliated with the Hutchinson Kansas Masonic Lodge AF&AM and recently received his 25 years of service certificate.
David had a love of movies, John Wayne movies were a personal favorite. He enjoyed playing golf in the company of good friends and loved politics and talking about the current state off affairs.
David is survived by his wife Carla and son Levi Morris of Lyons, Kan.; brothers James (Cathy) Morris of Hoisington, Kan. and Steven Morris of Andover, Kan.; Uncle Ronald “Butch” (the late Connie) Morris of Oxford, Kan.; and Aunts Norma (Bud) Smith of Springfield, Colo., and Naomi Morris of Canton, Kan. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents; and one sister LoRee Hall.
Memorial service will be 1 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 17, at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Matt Kruse presiding. There will be a private family interment at a later date. Memorials are suggested to Caring Hands Humane Society in care of Petersen Funeral Home.
