Della Hurd, 74, died June 2 at home in Great Bend. Born May 8, 1939 at Mansfield, La., she was the daughter of Willie and Ruth (Jamison) Jackson.
On May 19, 1973, she married Calvin Hurd at Russell. He died July 17, 2009. They moved to Great Bend in 1973 and made it their home. She was a homemaker, a member of Myers Chapel AME Church and Salvation Army, both of Great Bend.
Survivors include a son, Michael Calvin Hurd, Russell; a daughter Gwen Caro and her husband Vincent Jr. of Larned; a step-son, Calvin Hurd, Jr. of Lawton, Okla.; two step-daughters: Cynthia Schuler and her husband Phillip and Camillia Hardy, all of Lawton, Okla.  She is also survived by a brother, Clint West of Shreveport, La.; two sisters: Lyria Johnson of Concord, Calif. and  Eliza Jackson of Mansfield, La., seven grandchildren: Alexis Hurd, Trey Hurd, Jada Hurd, Michael Hurd, Jr., Tyrell Hurd, Jaylin Brown, and Sarah Griffin, and one great-grandchild, Anniyah Hurd-Harders. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Albert Robinson, Bobby Jackson, and John Lemmon; and two sisters, Juanita West and Virgie West.
Funeral Service will be Friday, June 7, at 1:00 p.m. at Bryant Funeral Home with Rev. Martin F. Grizzell officiating. Interment will be at Great Bend Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, June 6 at Bryant Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to St. Rose Foundation for the benefit of the Heartland Cancer Center or Salvation Army, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
