Donald Lee Horyna 1935-2015

RUSSELL—  Donald Lee Horyna, 79, died on Sunday, March 15, at the Locus Grove Village in LaCrosse. Born Sept. 6, 1935 at the family home in Great Bend, he was the son of Edward C. and Marie R. (Krmela) Horyna.
On Dec. 30, 1988, he married Earlene Crisco at Great Bend.  He worked as a welder, with Flame Engineering in LaCrosse for about 20 years. A longtime member of Otterbein United Methodist Church in Russell, he enjoyed fishing, puzzles, traveling, dominoes, reading and spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include his daughter, Mary Zahn of Ellinwood; stepsons Frank Philbern of Great Bend, and David Philbern of Norton; stepdaughters Connie Meitner of Olmitz, Karen McNemee of McLouth, Rita Tague of Edwardsville, and Norma Herdman of Inman; brothers Kenneth Horyna of Holyrood, and Edwin Horyna of Hutchinson; sisters Evelene Knox of Great Bend, Rose Cosper of Irving, Texas, Carol Huffman of Great Bend, Betty Hafenstine of LaCrosse, Connie Allen of McPherson, and Lois Cox of South Hutchinson; 11 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his wife Earlene Horyna on April 2, 2009; his parents, son Jeffrey Horyna, brother Clarence Horyna and sister Sylvia Grace Horyna.
A celebration of life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 19, at the Otterbein United Methodist Church in Russell with Pastor Earl Haggard officiating.  Burial will follow at the Russell City Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, March 18.  Memorials may be given to the American Diabetes Association and sent in care of the mortuary.
