Dorothy Belle Behrens, 89, passed away Dec. 9, 2017, at home in Great Bend. She was born Jan. 29, 1928, at Council Grove to Oliver and Sabina (Snodgrass) Ratliff. Dorothy married Orla Frederick “Fred” Behrens on Sept. 17, 1950, at Council Grove. A Great Bend resident since 1950, Dorothy worked for First National Bank and was a cook for Shady Grove School. Dorothy was known for her volunteer ministry at the church, such as tea towel embroidery for new brides, sewing sleeping bags for the homeless, and making noodles for fundraising efforts.
She was a member of First Christian Church in Great Bend.
Survivors include husband, Fred, of the home; one son, Robert Behrens and wife Ruth of Great Bend; five grandchildren, Jason Behrens, Great Bend, Jennifer Cauley and husband Jason, Great Bend, Melissa Serrien and husband Greg, Colorado Springs, Colo., Michael Behrens, Hoisington, and Brian Behrens, Wichita; six great-grandchildren, Sage Cauley, Sienna Cauley, Slade Cauley, Zachary Serrien, Sophie Serrien, and Jeffrey Serrien; and daughter-in-law, Karen Behrens. She was preceded in death by one son, Ross Behrens; four brothers; and five sisters.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Christian Church in Great Bend with the Reverend Joshua Leu presiding. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Bryant Funeral Home, with the family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. Interment will be at Great Bend Cemetery. Memorials have been designated to First Christian Church, in care of Bryant Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent and notice viewed at www.bryantfh.net
