OVERLAND PARK — Dorothy Neenan Mermis, 96, passed away peacefully Friday, July 12, 2013 at her home in Overland Park, Kansas. Born on January 17, 1917 in Cameron, Mo., she was the second of James and Mildred Neenan’s five children. She married Joseph A. Mermis, Jr. in 1941 and together they had six children. Initially, they lived in New York City, but post war they made their home in Great Bend, Kansas where they raised their family and were active in the Great Bend community. Dorothy’s faith and family were the center of her life.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe, her parents, brothers and sisters and brothers-and-sisters-in-law. She is survived by her children, Joe (Joanie Green) Mermis, Marsha Beauperlant, Ken (Anna) Mermis, Steve (Janet) Mermis, Mary (Pat Dreiling) Mermis, and Jane (Will) Lynch, 17 grandchildren and their spouses, 27 great-grandchildren, brothers-in-law, William E. Clarkson and Frank Andrews and his wife Maxine, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, July 15 at 9:00 a.m., at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 5250 Mission Road, Roeland Park, Ks. A private burial will be held on July 16 at Great Bend Cemetery, Great Bend, Ks. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grace Hospice House, 9233 Ward Parkway #201, K.C., Mo. or Prince of Peace Catholic Church (St. Patrick), 4100 Broadway Ave., Great Bend, Ks.
