Douglas Bruce Walter, 66, passed away March 26, 2021, at his home in Great Bend. He was born March 5, 1955, in Great Bend, Kan. to Bruce and Florence (Corrigan) Walter. He graduated from Kingman High School and was employed at Larned State Hospital. He enjoyed fishing, camping and traveling.
He married Robin Matthews and they were blessed with one daughter, Pamela Jean. After Robin’s untimely death in January 1980, he married Cheri Rae (Greenleaf) Degenhardt, June 25, 1982, and gained two daughters, Tamra Michelle and Melissa Dawn.
Survivors include, three daughters, Pamela Cooper and husband Pat, Tami Johns, and Melissa Crawford and husband James; five grandchildren, William Dixon, Seth Choyce, Kamryn Johns, Khloe Johns and Gavin Crawford; two brothers, David Walter and his wife Catherine and Jeff Walter; two sisters, Robin Pinkerton and her husband Jerry, and Sharon Locke; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Robin Matthews Walter; his current wife, Cheri Walter; a brother, Michael Walter and infant brothers, Danny Walter and Bruce Walter; a sister, Connie Chandler; and his parents.
Cremation was requested and a Memorial service will be held at noon, Saturday, April 17, 2021, at Doug and Cheri’s home, 3315 18th St., Great Bend. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been designated to Lake Wilson Area Association (LWAA) to help repair the fish cleaning station, in care of Bryant Funeral Home, or AA members may donate at http://Contribution.aa.org.
Doug will always be remembered for his generosity and love of life. His positive attitude influenced many and the ones he leaves behind will miss him more than words can say. You were loved by many, Doug.
