FAIRHOPE, Ala. — Ema Davis, 102, died Sept. 17 at her residence in Fairhope, Ala. She was born Jan. 26, 1908, in Hoisington, to Abraham and Lydia (Radke) Boger. After completing high school in Hoisington, she was encouraged to pursue the field of chiropractic medicine and enrolled in Colvin Chiropractic College in Wichita. It was there she met another student, Otis Davis. Upon receiving their degrees, they married and set about travelling throughout the United States holding health workshops. In 1941 they arrived in Mobile, Ala., liked the city, opened a chiropractic practice, and worked side by side until Otis became ill. Ema closed the practice to take care of him. After his death in the mid fifties, she reopened the practice. Having become one of the first female chiropractors in the state, she had a successful career, finally retiring in 1983 at the age of 75.

She has been a member of the Alabama State Chiropractic Association, the Chiropractic Association and was a charter member of the American Chiropractic Association.

In her retirement years, she had an active, well rounded life. She loved traveling and took part in numerous trips with the Riase Club of Saint Pius Catholic Church, Saint Mark United Methodist Seniors and Al’s Travel Club. She enjoyed Mardi Gras and was active in several mystic societies.

She loved fishing and could spend many hours on the banks of rivers and lakes with her fishing pole. Ema was an insatiable reader and maintained a lifelong interest in medicine, pharmacology, practicing a healthy life style and encouraging others to do the same.

She is the last of Abraham and Lydia’s children, being predeceased by her brother, Marcus Boger and his wife, Edna, of Great Bend; her brother, Lucas Boger; sister, Emily Stafford; her stepdaughter Marilyn Schoenbrun; and her nephew, Alan Boger. She is survived by nephews Marcus Lynn (Pam) Boger, and Lloyd (Gerry) Boger, all of Great Bend, and Romer (Vada) Stafford of Wichita, three step-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren, all in Temecula, Calif.; nieces, nephews, cousins; and special friends, Mary Orso, Dot Romane and Betty Ewbank, all of Mobile, Ala.

Visitation was held on Sept. 22 at the funeral home in Mobile, Ala. A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to your charity of choice.
