HUTCHINSON — Duane Louis “Uke” Ukens, 74, died April 8, 2015, at his home in Windom.
He was born June 7, 1940, in Stafford, to Edwin W. and Norma P. (Hoskin) Ukens. Duane graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1958 and attended classes at Barton County Community College. He was owner and operator of Ukens Welding and Windom Dozer Service. He worked for Morton Salt, in South Hutchinson, as a mechanic. Duane had worked several manufacturing jobs before he became self employed. He was a member of Windom Church of Christ.
On October 1, 1965, he married Karen Marlyne (Neel) Cordell at her parents’ home in Windom. She survives.
Other survivors include a son, René Cordell; a daughter, Lené Krause; grandchildren, Nathan Cordell, Jennifer (Cordell) Altwegg, Karen Jo (Krause) Hudson, Robert “Bobby” Krause; a half-sister, Jolene (Chet) Miller; a half-brother, Wally Ukens; seven great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-father, Carl Myers; his step-mother, LaVeda Ukens; and his half- brother, Rick.
A memorial service is scheduled at 1 p.m. Saturday at Windom Church of Christ, with Kenny Graham, Sr. officiating. Burial has taken place in Windom Cemetery. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday with family to receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Elliott Mortuary.
