Edwin Schmeidler 1926 - 2013


WAKEENEY — Edwin Schmeidler, 87, died July 8, 2013, at Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit.
Born May 13, 1926, on the farm near Severin in Ellis County, he was the son of Anton and Anna (Sander) Schmeidler. On May 29, 1954, he married Alfreda Pfeifer at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hays. He was a farmer and rancher.  
Mr. Schmeidler served during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Christ The King Catholic Church of WaKeeney, the Knights of Columbus. and was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.  
Survivors include his wife, of the home; a son, Edwin Schmeidler, Jr., WaKeeney; a daughter Kay Linden, Ellinwood; three brothers Ralph, Ogallah; Lawrence, Catharine; and Anton, Jr., Hays; four sisters Sophia Walter, Catharine; Lillian Fisher, Hays; Anna Marie Lessor, Great Bend, and Gloria Ann VonLintel, Victoria; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by a sister. Irene Dreiling.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Friday at Christ the King Catholic Church with Father Charles Steier as celebrant. Burial will be at the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. A parish vigil service will follow visitation at 7 p.m., also at the funeral home. A Fourth Degree rosary will follow the parish vigil service.
Memorial contributions are suggested to, Walk-A-Thon for Health, Christ the King Cemetery, or Masses, in care of the funeral home.
