LARNED — Eleanor H.J. Tammen, 92, passed away April 21, at the Cedars Care Home in McPherson. Born May 10, 1921, in Albert, she was the daughter of Fred H. and Mattie G. Folkerts Hemken. On Aug. 27, 1941, she married Leonard F. Tammen in Albert. He passed away on March 12, 2009. After living in Colorado Springs from 1957 to 1961, she moved to Larned and was a resident from 1961 to 2005. She then moved to McPherson. She was a homemaker. She enjoyed baking, reading, and loved gardening. She was especially known for her fried chicken, homemade bread and delicious graham cracker pie.
Mrs. Tammen was a former member of the Grace Lutheran Church of Larned and a present member of the Grace Lutheran Church in McPherson, and Mary-Martha’s Circle of Larned.
Survivors include, a son Glenn Tammen and wife Ronda, of McPherson; a daughter Loretta Stephenson of Rozel; a brother, Leonard Hemken and wife Nancy, of Ovideo, Fla.; a sister, Louise Haller of Topeka; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by, a son-in-law, Ramon Stephenson; and a brother-in-law, W.E. (Eddie) Haller.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday at the Grace Lutheran Church in Larned with the Rev. Dale Dumperth presiding. Burial will be at the Larned Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and Thursday, with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, at the Beckwith Mortuary in Larned. Memorials may be given to the Grace Lutheran Church of Larned, or the Grace Lutheran Church of McPherson, both in care of the funeral home.
