MISSION VIEJO, CALIF. — Eleanor Kaiser, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away Nov. 21 in Mission Viejo, Calif. She was 88 years old. Eleanor was born March 11, 1922, on a farm near Kenmare, N.D., the daughter of Joseph and Sarah (Rud) Engeberg.
Her elementary years were spent in a rural, one-room school outside Kenmare, N.D. She received her secondary education at Sheyenne River Academy, Harvey, N.D., and later attended Union College in Lincoln, Neb. While at Union College she met and fell in love with Kenneth Kaiser. They were married June 21, 1948, in Kenmare, N.D.
Eleanor enjoyed her working days for Shirer Well Servicing in Hoisington and the law offices of Lee Turner in Great Bend.
Through the years Eleanor and Kenneth were residents of Hoisington and Albert. They then spent 15 happy years in Lincoln, Neb., with Jim, Holly, Jordan and Katey. The last few months of Eleanor’s life she relocated to California to be with Alicia, Rick and family. She received tender care at the residential retirement home owned by her granddaughter and her husband, Erin and Mark Fisk.
Eleanor loved her family and church, giving both much of her time. She was a member of the College View Seventh-day Adventist Church in Lincoln, Neb. She also enjoyed gardening and baking, always sharing the bounties from both hobbies. She was a strong woman with character, compassion and values. She practiced kindness to all. She was a wonderful person and will be deeply missed.
She is survived by her husband, Kenneth; son and daughter-in-law Jim and Holly Kaiser of Lincoln, Neb.; and daughter and son-in-law Alicia and Rick Murray of Redlands, Calif. Jim and Holly’s children are Jordan and Katey Kaiser. Alicia and Rick’s children are Erin and Mark Fisk, their son Brayden; Matthew and Kelly Murray, their daughter Madison; and David and Kerry Murray. Other family members include her sister, Eileen Walters of Denver, Colo.; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law Wanda and Clyde Dick of Greeley, Colo.; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother and his wife, Floyd and Jean Engeberg; and Eileen’s husband, Rex Walters.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 9, 2011, in La Crosse. Janousek Funeral Home will officiate. Contributions may be made in her name to the Great Bend Seventh-day Adventist Church, 7 SW 30 Avenue, Great Bend, KS 67530-6534.
