Elmer C. Dupree, 90, died Feb. 23 at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born July 10, 1921 in Knowles, Okla. he was the son of John L. and Clara Mae (Taylor) Dupree. On Dec. 21, 1941 he married Rhea M. Brown in Chester Okla. She died on Oct. 16, 2009. A resident of Great Bend since 1951, coming from Kinsley, he owned and operated the Dupree Locker Service for 28 years and later worked for Dillons for 17 years.
Mr. Dupree served during World War II as a Tec 5 in the Army Air Corps. He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene and the American Legion Post 180, both of Great Bend.
Survivors include two daughters, Naomi Dean Debes of Littleton, Colo. and R. Maxine Simpson and husband C.E. of Wellington; one brother, Kenneth Dupree of Kinsley; one sister, Margaret Ferguson of Wynnewood, Okla.; two grandchildren, Kimberly Hindman and husband Tim of Littleton, Colo. and Kerrie Martinez and husband Damien of Round Rock, Texas; and four great-grandchildren, Alliee Hindman, Christopher Martinez, Jacob Martinez, Emily Martinez. He was preceded in death by son-in-law, Johnny Lynn Debes; and a brother, Arthur W. Dupree.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday at the Great Bend Cemetery North with Pastor Josh Foster officiating. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Wednesday at Bryant Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Brit Spaugh Park and Zoo, in care of the funeral home.
