Elsie L. Swope, 90, died Dec. 11 at Woodhaven Care Center in Ellinwood. Born Dec. 31, 1920, in Salem, Ill., she was the daughter of Clyde and Katherine (Brubaker) Barrow. In Aug. 1938 she married Charles Chester Collier. He died on Feb. 8, 1944. On April 11, 1965, she married Edward L. Swope in Salem, Ill. He died on Aug. 8, 1974. A resident of Great Bend since 1976, coming from Salem, Ill., she was a homemaker, a bank teller, and had worked in a shoe store and a dress shop.
Mrs. Swope was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Great Bend. She was previously a member of Salem Baptist Church in Salem, Ill. and had been active in choir, Sunday School and ladies groups.
Survivors include a daughter, Janet Engleman, of Great Bend; two granddaughters, Kathie Keller and husband Jeff, of Great Bend and LeeAnn Blazen and husband Joseph of Lenexa; and two great-grandchildren, Sarah Keller and Neal Keller. She was preceded in death by a brother, Clyde Albert Barrow Jr.; and a sister, Esther Ellen Ewalt.
Memorials services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church in Great Bend with the Rev. Tom Sheldon officiating. Burial will be at the Great Bend Cemetery.
