Elwyn Dean Hammerschmidt 1941-2011
HOISINGTON — Elwyn Dean Hammerschmidt, 69, died May 11 at Clara Barton Hospital, Hoisington.
He was born November 14, 1941, at Hays, the son of Otto and Evelyn  (Windholz) Hammerschmidt. He married Evelyn Gerritzen October 22, 1982 at Great Bend. A Hoisington resident for 29 years, he retired after working as a truck driver for R and S Transportation. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus, both of Hoisington.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Hammerschmidt, of the home; a son, Michael Spainhoward, Ellinwood; four daughters, Sheila Hammerschmidt,  Brookville; Lorri Patterson, Rochester, N.Y.; Angela Oberle, Pawnee Rock; and Alicia Westhoff, Great Bend; a sister, Rose Ann Schmidt, Wichita; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Marcian Hammerschmidt, and a grandson, Silas Patterson.
A Mass of Christian burial is scheduled at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 14 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Hoisington, with Celebrant Father Dwight Birket. Interment will be at St. John Church Cemetery, Hoisington.
Visitation is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and and from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, Hoisington.
A vigil service is scheduled at 7 p.m. Friday at the Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home.
