Eugene “Gene” J. Urban, 92, passed away February 5, 2023, at Medicalodges of Great Bend. He was born Sept. 23, 1930, in Loretta, Kan., to Leo and Veronica (Stremel) Urban. In 1950, Gene’s parents moved the family to Norton. Gene enlisted in the United States Army, where he served as a Sergeant during the Korean Conflict and was stationed in Seoul and Germany, and received two Battle Stars.
After Gene got out of the service, he married Alice Tuzicka Feb. 16, 1954, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Loretta. Then in 1966, Gene and Alice moved to Albert, where Gene worked for Home Appliance, and later owned Gene’s Repair. He was a member of Prince of Peace Parish, American Legion, and the NRA. He was a Model A enthusiast, enjoyed hunting, and was an avid gun and clock collector.
Survivors include, his wife, Alice Urban of the home; a daughter, Kathy J. Jordan and husband Michael of Hutchinson; a son, Douglas L. Urban and wife Charlene of Stilwell; a brother, Larry Urban of Norton; a sister, Eileen Jaeger of Tyndall, S.D.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Vernon Urban (Gerry) and Marvin Urban (Mary); two sisters, Clarice Engle (Clem) and Marlene Urban; and a brother in law, George Jaeger.
There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 18, 2023, at Bryant Funeral Home, with Father Aneesh Parappanattu presiding, with Gentiva Hospice veteran honors. Inurnment will be at St. Ann Cemetery in Olmitz, with Military Rites conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard. Memorials have been designated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Alzheimer’s Association or Golden Belt Humane Society, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
