SHERWOOD SHORES, Texas — Eva Mae Skinner, 88, died on Nov. 7, at Sherwood Shores (Lake Texoma), Texas. She was born on Jan. 9, 1926, in Great Bend, one of eight children of Isaac William and Ethel (Booze) Root. Her parents operated a feed and poultry store on Main Street in Great Bend. She graduated from Great Bend High School in 1944 and was employed by the telephone company in Great Bend and later as a bookkeeper. She married Dewey Lee Skinner on May 19, 1946 in Great Bend. He was employed by Bell Engine Service and later ran his own engine repair business in Great Bend. Their marriage of 52 years ended upon his death on Jan. 15, 1999. She was raised by parents who adhered to the strict religious principles of the Dunkard Brethren Church and was baptized by immersion as a young adult according to Dunkard tradition. She remained devoutly religious throughout her life and in later years attended the Sherwood Shores Baptist Church. She loved the Lord Jesus and she loved her family. She was a very cheerful woman who enjoyed gospel music.
She is survived by her children, Stephen Lee Skinner, of Boulder, Colo., Brenda Sue Sievers, of Great Bend, and Dale Lynn Skinner of Gordonville, Texas; grandchildren, Rusty Sievers, and Laura Woody; three great-grandchildren, Ethan Woody, William Woody and Tyler Dale Skinner; one sister, Olive (Root) Haldeman of Dallas Center, Iowa; and one brother, Wilbur Root, of Great Bend. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dewy Lee Skinner; her parents, Isaac and Ethel Root; grandson, Jason Dale Skinner; sisters, Rose Cross and Emma Hartness; and brothers, Marion Root, Sharon Root and Dave Root.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at the Sherwood Shores Baptist Church with the Rev. Wendyl Glenn and the Rev. Delbert Vest officiating. Interment will follow the services at Gordonville Cemetery. To sign the online registry, please go to www.meadorfuneralhomes.com.
