RUSSELL — Evelyn Mae Evans, 87, died March 21, 2016, at Russell Regional Hospital. Born Nov. 28, 1928, at Charleston, Ark., she was the daughter of John R. and Eva (Buckner) Ralston. She graduated from Columbus High School. On Nov. 28, 1946, she married Allan D. Evans at the Columbus Christian Church. She was employed by The Modern Light newspaper in Columbus and was active in Russell Publishing Company Inc. and other newspaper and publishing ventures for more than 54 years.
Survivors include two children, David Allan Evans of Russell, and Diana Lynne Maier of Kechi; six grandchildren; a step-grandchild; 16 great-grandchildren; a great-great-child; her brother John R. Ralston of Poughkeepsie, N.Y.; a sister Esther Ralston of Tucson, Ariz.; an adopted sister, Edith Addis; and numerous nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by a grandson; and a nephew.
Celebration of Evelyn’s Life will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 25, at the First Congregational Church of Russell with Pastor Ron Wedel officiating.  Burial will follow at the Russell City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary with the family present to greet friends from 6-7 p.m.  A memorial has been established with the Russell County Veterans Memorial in care of the funeral home.
