HAYS — Evelyn Scheck, 95, died April 5, 2012 at St. Johns Long Term Care, Hays.
She was born  June 26, 1916 at Walker, Kansas, the daughter of Andrew J. and Barbara (Von Feldt) Scheck.
She married Pete J. Scheck Nov. 21, 1938 at Walker, Kansas. He died March 19, 2004.
Mrs. Scheck was a Hays, resident since 2004 coming from Great Bend, where she had resided since 1941. She was a sales clerk for Big A Auto Parts and was a homemaker. She was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Patrick Catholic Church, the Altar Society, and Daughters of Isabella, all of Great Bend. She was a hospice volunteer and a foster parent to more than 25 children.
Survivors include a son, Larry Dean Scheck and his wife Barbara, San Diego, Calif.; a daughter, Gloria McCormick and her husband Kenny, Hays; a brother, Julius Scheck, Great Bend; a sister, Mary Ann Elliott, Teaque, Texas; five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Betty Jane Brown; six brothers, Andrew Scheck, Richard Scheck, Ray Scheck, John Scheck, infant Joseph Scheck and Severeign Scheck; and three sisters, Amelia Lange, Helen Woodward and Regina Miller.
An Altar Society Rosary will start at 4 p.m. Monday at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Great Bend. A Vigil Service with Daughters of Isabella Rosary will start at 5 p.m. Monday at St. Patrick Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled at 3 p.m. Tuesday at St. Patrick Catholic Church with Father Reginald A. Urban officiating. Interment will be at Great Bend Cemetery.
Visitation is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday at Bryant Funeral Home.
