Everett L. Stricker, 94, passed away on July 11, 2016, at Locust Grove Village in LaCrosse. Born on Feb. 13, 1922, at Ringwood, Okla., he was the son of Joseph L. and Martha C. (Coons) Stricker. He graduated from Ringwood High School in Ringwood, Okla., and then attended Oklahoma University, where he attained a business degree. On Sept. 17, 1952, he was united in marriage to Marguerite M. Medlam at Lyons. The couple lived in Lyons for a short time, and then moved to Great Bend. Everett was employed as a bookkeeper for Turner Electric in Great Bend for nearly 40 years, retiring in 1988. He then did farm work for Don Dudrey for 10 years, and after that was employed by Walmart in Great Bend for 17 years, retiring for the final time on Oct. 1, 2015.
Mr. Stricker was a United States Army veteran of World War II, having served in Northern France, Rhineland, and Central Europe Theaters. He attended the Russell Church of Christ at Russell and was a member of Kansas American Legion Post No. 180 and Masonic Lodge No. 15, AF & AM, both of Great Bend.
Survivors include five daughters, Susan Stricker of Great Bend, Patty Vavricek of Atlantic, Iowa, Cindy Herrman and husband Jerry of Liebenthal, Brenda Bendure of Great Bend, and Kathryn Jonas and husband Kevin of Hoisington; six grandchildren, Brandon and Teri Vavricek, Christin Vavricek, Traci and Craig Brenden, Jesse and Katie Herrman, Shane Jonas, and Derek Jonas; three great-grandchildren, Madisen Brenden, Zachary Herrman, and Adelynn Herrman; and two sisters, Mary Campbell of Ringwood, Okla., and Dortha Sparks and her husband Sam, of Kansas City, Mo. Everett was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Marguerite Stricker on Dec. 16, 2010; three brothers, Aaron, Warren and Claude Stricker; and five sisters, Mae Stricker, Joyce Rexroat, Sadie Moore, Eva Webb and Esther Staley.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday at the Great Bend Church of Christ, 1122 Stone Street, with Richard Fobes officiating. Interment will be in the Great Bend City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Charter Funerals with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Church Visitation will be from 1 to 1:50 p.m. Wednesday at the Great Bend Church of Christ. Memorials may be directed to the Russell Church of Christ at Russell or Kansas Honor Flights.
