Father Charles John Mazouch, 78, passed away Dec. 27, 2025, at Azria Health Great Bend. He was born on May 29, 1947, in Great Bend, Kan., to John and Virginia Loretta (Kuhlman) Mazouch.
Growing up on the family farm near Timken, Charles attended Timken Grade School and Bison High School, followed by his vocational calling at Conception Seminary College, Conception, Mo. and Josephinum Seminary, Columbus, Ohio. Charles was ordained as a priest on May 28, 1973. His divine invitation from God allowed him to serve throughout the Catholic Diocese of Dodge City; Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Dodge City, St. Patrick Catholic Church, Great Bend, St. Joseph Catholic Church, Offerle, Sts. Peter and Paul, North Kinsley, St. Mary Catholic Church, Hodgeman County, St. Bernard, Belpre, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Larned, St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Great Bend, St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Seward, St. Joseph the Worker, Tribune, St. Mary Catholic Church, Marienthal, St. Anthony of Padua, Leoti, St. Michael Catholic Church, LaCrosse, St. Joseph Catholic Church, Liebenthal, Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Timken, St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ellinwood, Immaculate Catholic Church, Claflin, St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, St. John, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Pratt, Holy Family Catholic Church, Odin, St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ashland, and Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Coldwater. Father Charles also served on many commissions through the Diocese and a member of the 4th degree Knights of Columbus.
Ministering in Christ’s name was the focal center of Father Charles’ life, however, he also could be found fellowshipping with friends and family around the card table, chess table, and traveling around the country. In his younger more active days, Father Charles enjoyed farming, handball, racquetball and snow skiing.
He is survived by two brothers, Gene Mazouch and his wife Mary Ann of Great Bend, and Marion Mazouch and his wife Kerry of Randolph, Kan.; one sister-in-law, Susan Mazouch of Great Bend; six nephews, Chris Mazouch, Michael Mazouch, Greg Mazouch, Stephen Mazouch, Matt Mazouch and Nick Mazouch; three nieces, Amanda Mazouch, Kristina Mazouch and Sara Delgadillo. He was preceded in passing by his parents; brother, Dennis Mazouch; niece, Laura Mazouch; and great nephew, John Benedict Mazouch.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2025, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Timken, with Bishop John Brungardt presiding. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Timken. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30, at Bryant Funeral Home. A Vigil and Knights of Columbus Rosary will be held at 7 p.m., Dec. 30, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, with the family present to receive guests from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Memorials may be given to Catholic Schools of Diocese of Dodge City or Golden Belt Community Foundation, in care of Bryant Funeral Home, 1425 Patton Rd., Great Bend, KS 67530.
