ARKANSAS CITY — Florence C. (Maloney) Walter-McDermott, 74, of Arkansas City, formerly of Great Bend, died Monday at Sterling House of Arkansas City. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home of Arkansas City.
Burial will follow cremation at 2:30 p.m. Friday at the Great Bend Cemetery, Great Bend.
Florence was born Feb. 9, 1937, in Great Bend to Bernard and Marie Maloney. She graduated from Great Bend Senior High School in 1955. Florence married James Neilan Walter on June 19, 1955. She was employed at the First National Bank of Great Bend as an asst. vice president. She graduated from the Colorado School of Banking. She was elected to the Great Bend City Council. She later divorced and moved to Wichita in 1980. She married Donald E. McDermott in 1987 and was employed as an administrative assistant to the vice president of finance. Donald preceded her in death.
Survivors include a daughter Cathy and her husband David Height of Taos, N.M.; a son Jay N. and his wife Debbie Walter of Arkansas City; a sister Mary F. Hougland, five grandchildren Shaun Walter, Christine Walter, Jacy Walter, Matthew Height and Jonathon Height; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and husband Donald.
Arrangements are being made through the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home of Arkansas City.
