Floyd Douglas Griggs 1935 - 2015

PONCA CITY, Okla. — Floyd Douglas Griggs, 80, longtime resident of Ponca City, passed away Oct. 27, 2015, at his home. Born on Sept. 2, 1935, in Guymon, Okla., he was the son of Beaulah May (Thrall) and Earl Edward Griggs. He was raised in northwest Oklahoma and southwest Kansas, graduating from Deerfield High School in Deerfield in 1953. After high school he attended Kansas State University and in 1957, completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting as an Honors graduate and with Phi Kappa Phi honors. On Sept. 30, 1956, he married Carol Lavon Kash in Lakin, until her passing on Feb. 18, 1990. Melba Maxine (Campbell) Moos became his wife on Aug. 23, 1991, in Ponca City, Okla. Floyd began working for Conoco in the Controllers Department on June 1, 1957. On April 1, 1962, he transferred to the Computer Services Department. Retirement came June 1, 1992, as the associate director of Data Center Planning and Operations. Hobbies that Floyd enjoyed included growing flowers and tomatoes, reading, doing puzzles, crosswords, golfing, dancing, computer games, and playing cutthroat pitch games with his work buddies on lunch breaks.
Mr. Griggs was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and served as a deacon and trustee. He also belonged to the Phi Kappa Tau Social Fraternity, Sigma Theta Epsilon Methodist Service Fraternity, Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation Research Council, and the Conoco Retirees’ Association.
Survivors include his wife, Maxine of the home; two daughters, Kendra Chatwood and husband Chris of Marietta, Ga., and Laurie Hoddy and husband Tom of Ponca City, Okla.; two stepsons, Stephen Moos and wife Terri of Broken Arrow, Okla., and Paul Moos and wife Patty of North Richland Hills, Texas; two stepdaughters, Donna Wells and husband Brett of Great Bend, and Julie Evans and husband Justin of Houston, Texas; 14 grandchildren, Amanda Hoddy, Sabrina Hoddy, Eden Hoddy, Andrew Chatwood, Carter Chatwood, Tara Massey, Cole Moos, Allie Moos, Brandon Wells, Bryce Wells, Kaitlin Moos, Daniel Moos, Morgan Evans, and Owen Evans; three great-grandsons; and many nieces nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Carol; brother Gene Griggs; and sister Donita Claar.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31, at the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Robert Montgomery officiating. Burial will then follow at the Resthaven Memorial Park in Ponca City, Okla. Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Trout Funeral Home.
