Frances (Rosander) Burns 1917 - 2016

OVERLAND PARK — Frances (Rosander) Burns, 99, died Dec. 18, 2016, in Overland Park. Born Aug. 14, 1917, in Lindsborg she was the daughter of Emil and Ellen Rosander. She graduated from Bethany College, where she was an active debater. She was very proud of her Swedish heritage. Frances and her husband, Allen Burns, moved to Great Bend after World War II, and she spent nearly 30 years teaching elementary school students there and being involved in educational, church, and community organizations.
Mrs. Burns was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Great Bend.
Frances is survived by her children, Karin (Marvin) Sobba, of Overland Park, and George Burns (Sandy) of San Diego, Calif.; four grandchildren, Don Burns (Brynn) of Leawood, Becky (Chris) Simpson of Edmond, Okla., Anne Sobba of Overland Park, and Kathy (Kyle) Parks of Shawnee; and six great-grandchildren, Shannon and Sam Burns, Alex and Harry Simpson, and Taylor and Brady Parks. She was preceded in death by her husband, Allen Burns; sisters, Helen Bailey and Emeline Brunsell; and cousins, Annette Danielson and Ralph Sjostrom, who lived with their family when they grew up.
A memorial service was held on Dec. 22, 2016, at Silvercrest Retirement Community in Overland Park where she lived. Graveside services were held at Elmwood Cemetery in Lindsborg.
