Francis “Fritz” Duane Forbes, 88, passed away February 28, 2021, at Willow House in Hays. He was born February 24, 1933, at Eureka, to Henry and Edna (Auernheiner) Forbes. He married LaVerne Miers on June 16, 1967, at Hays.
Coming to Great Bend from Hays in 1969, Francis was a teacher at St. Mary’s of the Plains and a Professor at Barton Community College for 15 years. He was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Patrick Catholic Church. He was a veteran of the United States Coast Guard, from 1955 to 1964.
Survivors include, his wife LaVerne Forbes of the home; a son in law, Samuel Causby; two grandchildren, Matthew Cates and wife Caity and Jennifer Harbin; and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a daughter, Sharon Causby.
There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, March 8, 2021, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, with Father Don Bedore presiding. Inurnment will be held at Great Bend Cemetery North with Military Rites conducted by the United States Coast Guard Honor Guard. Memorials have been designated to the FD Forbes Scholarship or Holy Family School Endowment, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
