Fred Schad

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — Fred Schad, 62, St. Joseph, Mo., passed away Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2026. 

He was born May 21, 1963 in Shreveport, La. to LeRoy and Joyce (Menges) Schad. 

Fred grew up in Hudson, Kan., and graduated from St. John High School, where his artistic and musical talents blossomed. He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he proudly served his country for four years, stationed at Virginia Beach, Va. He used his artistic skills to design tattoos for fellow sailors.

After his military service, Fred returned to Kansas, where he was a self-employed handyman. He relocated to St. Joseph, Mo. in 2005.

Fred loved the outdoors, especially fishing at Wilson Lake and camping. He was a people person who made friends wherever he went, calling everyone “brother.”

He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his son, Daniel; siblings, Jim Schad, Laura Krogmeier (Paul), Ken Schad, Raymond Schad, and David Schad (Ro); aunt, Carol Henderson; uncle, Jim Horton (Lynn); aunt Debbie Conner (David); numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at a later date in Holyoke, Colo. Natural Farewell under the direction of Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. The family suggests memorial contributions to Community Missions Corp., 700 Olive St., St. Joseph, MO 64501. Online guest book and obituary at www.meierhoffer.com.
