HOISINGTON — Gary Dewayne Barr, 86, died Nov. 20, 2021, surrounded by his children and grandchildren, in his home, in Hoisington, Kan. He was born March 3, 1935, at Dodge City, Kan., the son of Herbert G. and Ethel Mae (Linenger) Barr. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1952 to 1954.  

He was married to Joan Payne in 1954 in Dodge City, they later divorced. He then married Carolyn Mae Jones on May 30, 1979, at Hoisington, Kan.  She preceded him in death on Jan. 31, 2021.

A long-time Hoisington resident, Gary worked for Rainbow Bread in route sales for 37 years, retiring in 1998. Gary was a member of New Life Baptist Church, the V.F.W. #3111 in Great Bend, the National Appaloosa Club, and was a horse enthusiast.

Survivors include children, Steven (Debbie) Barr of Cimarron, David (Patricia) Barr of Wichita, Kimberly (Eugene) Schneweis of Hoisington, Kevin (Susan) Barr of Minco, Okla., Pamela Douglas and Brad Barr both of Magnolia, Texas, and James (Deborah) Brehm of Perry, and Desda Brehm of South Carolina; a sister, Wanda Larson of Washington State; a brother, Donald (Rita Kay) Barr of Liberal;  25 grandchildren, including, Michele Berends, Heather Helvie, Alesia Schneweis, Candis Sykes, Joshua Barr, Stephanie Petermann, Jennifer Schrock, Stacey Howard, Amy Lynn Housh, Justin Barr, Rebecca Barr, Dillon Jasperson, Megan Jernigan, Sherinda Grounds, Taylor Wendel, Hannah Frisbee, Kaylee Frederick, Lillie Barr, Amanda Ricken-Long, and Jacob Evans; and 35 great-grandchildren, including, Matthew Mayers, Isabelle and Isaiah Berends, Morgan Custine, Landon Thomas, Ashlyn, Khilyn, Rozalyn, and Isiah Barr, Silas and Sadie Petermann, R.J. Thomas and Jadyn Boese. He was preceded in death by nine brothers; and two sisters; and a grandson, Jase Richardson.

Memorial Service will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, Dec. 3rd, 2021, at the New Life Baptist Church, Hoisington, with pastor Denny Lewis presiding. Interment will be 2:30 p.m. at the Kansas Veteran’s Cemetery, Dodge City, Kan.
