Gary Linn Mundhenke 1941 - 2015

HUTCHINSON — Gary Linn Mundhenke, 73, died March 4, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. Born Sept. 8, 1941, in Great Bend, he was the son of Elbert and Kathleen (Porter) Mundhenke. He was a 1959 graduate of Ainsworth, NE High School and graduated from Kansas State University, with a degree in Nuclear Engineering, in 1964.  While at KSU, Gary was the Student Body President 1963-64, Chancellor of the Student Tribunal, member of the Blue Key Honor Society and Farmhouse Fraternity. Following graduation from KSU, he worked for IBM where he was twice named to the “Golden Circle” for being in the top 3% of their national sales force. From 1971-77, he was Vice-president of IT and Member Services at Far-Mar-Co. From 1977-80, he was Vice-president of IT with Farmland, Industries. From 1980 until his retirement in 2008, Gary was President of Business Resource Planning, Integrated Solutions Group, Professional Data Services, and Agtrax. Gary loved his family, friends, golf, K-State and just being around people. Gary never knew a stranger.
Over the years, Gary served on many community boards and organizations. Some include, member and vice-chairman of the Hutchinson/Reno County Chamber of Commerce, United Way of Reno County Drive Chairman and Board Chairman, President and board member of Prairie Dunes Country Club, Co-chairman of the 2002 U.S. Women’s Open Golf Tournament, Vice-Chairman of the 2006 U.S. Senior Golf Open, board member and one time President of Hutchinson Health Care Services, Hutchinson Hospital board member, a long time member of Trinity United Methodist Church, serving as chairman of the Finance  Committee, Pastor Parish Committee and Administrative board, and was a member of the board of directors at Central Bank & Trust Co. and Data Center, Inc.
He married Sherry Smith on July 5, 1964 in Pawnee Rock. She survives. Other survivors include his son, Jeff Mundhenke and wife Christy, of Hutchinson; daughter, Sarah Waggoner and husband John, of Wichita; grandchildren, Ciara, Derek, and Veronika Mundhenke, Samantha and John Waggoner; sister, Rita Shenkel and husband Roger, of Grand Junction, Colo.; and a brother, Todd Mundhenke and wife Brenda, of Ainsworth, Neb. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at Trinity United Methodist Church with the Reverend Mike McGuire and the Reverend Jim Rhaesa presiding. Friends may sign the book today at Elliott Mortuary. Memorials may be made to the Trinity United Methodist Church or to the Gary Mundhenke Memorial Fund (these funds will be added to the Gary and Sherry Mundhenke Scholarship for engineering students at KSU), both in care of the funeral home.
