Leland Eugene ‘Gene’ Rothenberger, Christ’s loyal servant, 96, passed away from this world to salvation in Jesus on Sept. 6, 2024. He was born on July 21, 1928, in Osborne, Kan., to Irvin and Katherine (Humes) Rothenberger. Gene married Grace Eileen Kreft of Natoma, Kan., on Nov. 20, 1949.
God blessed Gene “The Hydraulic Man” with the knowledge to be an engineer, becoming a highly respected heavy equipment operator and service manager. He was a member of Our Saviour Lutheran Church.
Gene is preceded in death by his wife of 55 years; two daughters, Marcia Mitchell and Marla Atteberry; grandson, Kyle Kempton; great grandson; his parents; brother, Gerald Rothenberger; two sisters, Barbara Jo Rothenberger and Jeanette Henry.
Survivors include son, Steve Rothenberger (Deb) of Salina; three daughters, Joyce Kuntzsch (Jim) of Dorrance, Danna Allison (Jeff) of Great Bend, Kerry E. Rothenberger (Becky Turley) of South Hutchinson; ten grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; brother, Roland “Uncle Red” Rothenberger of Minnesota; and companion and best friend, Lucille Blide of St. John.
Visitation will take place from noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2024, with family receiving guests from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., all at Bryant Funeral Home. Funeral service will take place at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2024, at Our Saviour Lutheran Church, Great Bend, with Pastor Kenton Abbott presiding. Private family interment will take place at a later date. Memorials have been designated to Our Saviour Lutheran Church, in care of Bryant Funeral Home, 1425 Patton Rd., Great Bend, KS 67530.
