Gene W. Boomhower 1933 - 2012

DIGHTON — Gene W. Boomhower, 79, died Dec. 29, 2012, at Lane County Hospital in Dighton. Born March 15, 1933, in Hoisington, he was the son of J.E. “Toots” and Amalia (Boxberger) Boomhower. Gene graduated from Hoisington High School with the Class of 1951. On March 23, 1952, he married Marlene Susank in Hoisington. He served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. After his discharge he returned to Barton County to farm with his father and in 1963 moved to Lane County and was a lifelong farmer. He and Marlene celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this year. His farm was his life and he did enjoy going to the Big 12 Basketball tournament and Branson trips with his wife.  
Survivors include his wife, Marlene Boomhower of the home; a son, Craig Boomhower of Garden City; a daughter, Linda and her husband Andy Rinner of Overland Park; and two grandchildren, Celeste Rinner and Daniel Rinner. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Kenneth Boomhower.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 1, at the United Methodist Church in Dighton with the Rev. Berniece Ludlum officiating. Burial will be at the Dighton Memorial cemetery.
Graveside rites will be held at the 1st Infantry Division of Fort Riley and the American Legion Post #190. Memorials are suggested to the Lane County Healthcare Foundation in care of the funeral home. Condolences may be sent to    garnandfh@sbcglobal.net
