Genelda Pha “Nellie” Gumescheimer, 82, passed away Dec. 30, 2022, at Ellinwood Country Place Senior Living, Ellinwood, Kan. She was born Oct. 26, 1940, in Bazine, Kan., to Fred and Clara (Stieben) Rein, Jr. Nellie married Clarence Gumescheimer June 8, 1958, in Bazine. He survives.
Nellie, a resident of Great Bend for over 30 years coming from Dodge City and Ness City, was passionate about making a loving home for her family, especially cherishing time spent with grandchildren and great grandchildren. While residing in Ness City, Nellie enjoyed her employment at the Style Shop. She was an avid collector of coins and Precious Moment figurines, and enjoyed making noodles, embroidery, country music, and keeping an immaculate home. Nellie also received great joy from her Peekapoo grandpup, Maggie.
Survivors include her husband, Clarence, of the home; son, Kevin (Andrea McSherry) of Wright, Kan.; daughter, Tammy Hatesohl of Manhattan, Kan.; four grandchildren, Nikki Seybert (Rocky), Eric Hatesohl (fiancée, Erin LeFever), and Jared Gumescheimer (Camrynn); two great grandchildren, Levi and Emersyn Gumescheimer; one step grandson, Richard; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Cletus, Valis, and Leland Rein; and by sister, Glendoris Blattner; and by one step granddaughter, Kayla, and step great granddaughter, Aalilyah.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, Jan. 6, 2023, Great Bend Cemetery North in Great Bend, with Pastor Joshua Leu presiding. Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 5, 2023, at Bryant Funeral Home, with the family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Memorials may be given to First Christian Church or Ellinwood Country Living, in care of Bryant Funeral Home, 1425 Patton Road, Great Bend, KS, 67530.
