SURPRISE, Ariz. — Gerald (Jerry) Leroy Dean, 79, passed peacefully on April 8, in Surprise, Ariz. Born July 30, 1934, in Denver, Colo., he was the son of Forest and Mary (Haubert) Dean. On Jan. 4, 1959, he married Vera Duncan. Jerry was a longtime resident of Denver, Colo. and then retired to a farm north of Hoisington until moving to Surprise, Ariz.
Mr. Dean served in the Navy during the Korean War.  
Survivors include his wife Vera of Surprise, Ariz.; three sons,  Mark Dean and his wife Lois of Great Bend, Scott Dean and his wife Amy of Issaquah, Wash., and Michael Dean and his wife Tammie of Ramstein AFB Germany; six grandchildren, Ronnie Dean, Mason Dean, Garrett Dean, Paul Creekmore, Morgan Creekmore, Michael Dean; great-grandchild, Jenna Dean; one brother Leon Dean of Denver, Colo.; sister Debbie Dawdy of Las Cruces, N.M.; and brother-in-law Chuck Horning and wife Judi or Casa Grande, Ariz.  He was preceded in death by a sister, Joan Horning.
A celebration of Jerry’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 17, at United Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Milberger. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to United Emmanuel Lutheran Church or the Barton County Humane Society.
