Gladys M. Apel, 82, died March 16, at Woodhaven Care Center, Ellinwood. Born April 11, 1932 at Polk County, Mo., she was the daughter of Edward and Lula (Browning) Sloan.
Mrs. Apel was a Great Bend, Kansas resident since 1951 coming from Springfield, Mo. She married William Price September 23, 1950 at Springfield, Mo. He died May 23, 1974. She then married Norman Apel August 9, 1980 at Great Bend. She was a waitress and cashier for Ralph Wallace Buffet and Restaurant, Great Bend. She was a member of First Assembly of God, Great Bend.
Survivors include her husband, Norman Apel, of the home; four sons: Michael Price and his wife Loretta of Haysville, Eddie Price and his wife Karen of Great Bend, Bobby Price and his wife Ina of Cushing, Okla., and Terry Price and his wife Shelli of Great Bend; a daughter, Sherri Cox and her husband Shawn of Derby; a step-son, David Apel of Salina; three step-daughters: Briana Ernst and her husband Larry of Henderson, Nev., Gerilyn Hoard and her husband Mark of Salina, and Amy Astrab and her husband Rob of Derby. She is also survived by 28 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, Jimmy Sloan, and one step son, Gary Apel.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 20, at First Assembly of God in Great Bend with Pastor Dwight Dozier as officiant. Interment will be at Great Bend Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, March 19, at Bryant Funeral Home.
