Harmon E. "Shorty" Allinger, 77, died April 1 at Hays Medical Center in Hays. He was born March 21, 1934, at Great Bend, the son of Harmon C. and Goldie (Miles) Allinger. He married Velma Leiker on Jan. 14, 1958, at Hays. A lifetime Great Bend resident, he owned and operated H&H Auto Electric.

Mr. Allinger was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Great Bend. He served during the Korean War as a Staff Sgt. in the Marine Corps. He was past commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3111 and was a member of the American Legion Post 180, both of Great Bend.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; two daughters, Cheryl Roach and husband Darrell, Great Bend, and Laura Devine and husband Richard, Seward; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a half brother, Kay Harvey of Derry, Pa.

Vigil service will be at 7 p.m. Monday at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Great Bend. Interment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Great Bend, with military honors provided by the U.S. Marine Corps. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Holy Family School Endowment Fund or Prince of Peace Parish, in care of the funeral home. Condolences may be sent and notice viewed at www.bryantfh.net.
