GREAT BEND — Harold Richard Shaw, 85, died June 24, 2013 at Great Bend Regional Hospital.
Born Aug. 13, 1927 in Emporia, he was the son of Howard R. and Floy Ellen (Parks) Shaw.
He married Mary M. Wining in Emporia. They were later divorced. A longtime resident of Great Bend, living in Emporia and Lyons, he was a brakeman and conductor for Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad from 1948 until his retirement in 1987.
Mr. Shaw was a World War II veteran, serving in the Merchant Marine. He was a member of the American Legion in Emporia and United Transportation Union. He enjoyed traveling around the world and spent much time in Scotland.
Survivors include a daughter, Penny Cook and her husband Rocky, Oklahoma City, Okla.; and a step-daughter, Mary P. Wining and her husband Jim, Lone Jack, Mo.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Clifford Shaw.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday at Bryant Funeral Home with Pastor Jack Sweany officiating. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. to service time on Friday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Golden Belt Humane Society in care of the funeral home.
