Helen C. Detmer, 76, died Sept. 3, 2015, at Almost Home, Inc., Great Bend.  Born Oct. 5, 1938 at Great Bend, she was the daughter of John A. and Helen F. (Huslig) Debes.
She married John H. Detmer Sept. 5, 1964 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Great Bend.  A lifetime Barton County resident, Mrs. Detmer was a homemaker.
She was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, where she was past Director of Religious Education, Eucharistic Minister, and served on the Liturgical Commission, as well as the Altar Society, Ecumenical Commission of the Dodge City Diocese and the Ecumenical Commission of Great Bend. She was a volunteer for the Great Bend Food Bank and Meals on Wheels and was active in service work for the Capuchin Mission, Papua, New Guinea.
Survivors include her husband: John H. Detmer, of the home; one son: Al Detmer of Wellington, Colo.; three daughters: Angela Maneth and her husband David of Wichita, Connie Wagner and her husband Mark of Danville, Ind., and Cheryl Kohl and her husband Wayne of Greeley, Colo.; four sisters: Pauline Oberle and her husband Jim of Bushton, Doris Feist and her husband Gene of Claflin, Lou Feist and her husband Richard of Claflin, and Pat Feist and her husband Martin of Austin, Minn.; nine brothers: Gene Debes of Great Bend, Father Don Debes, OFM Cap. of Papua, New Guinea, Ken Debes and his wife Deb of Hays, Tom Debes of Odin, Bernard Debes and his wife Carolyn of Clyde, Leon Debes and his wife Rosemary of Boonsboro, Md., Francis Debes and his wife Virginia of Claflin, John Debes and his wife Kate of Hoisington, and Michael Debes and his wife Kathy of Dodge City; three grandchildren: Mary Nwana and her husband Gus of Wichita, Jessica Kohl of Greeley, Colo., and John Kohl of Greeley, Colo.; and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one sister, Florence Debes.
Altar Society Rosary will be at 4 p.m., and Vigil Service will be at 7 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 6, 2015 at Bryant Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m., Monday, Sept. 7, 2015 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Great Bend with Father Ted Stoecklein celebrating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Great Bend. Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 6 at Bryant Funeral Home. The casket will remain closed. Memorials have been established with Father Don Debes, OFM Cap. Mission Fund or Rosewood Roots and Wings Foundation or Dominican Sisters of Peace, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
