Helen Irene Tiede

Helen Irene Tiede departed her earthly home on Feb. 29th, 2024 at EW Thompson Health & Rehab Center after a hard fought eight year battle with dementia. Helen was born April 23rd, 1938 in Billings, Mo. to Ernest J. and Ruby Jeanette Tiede (Branstetter).

She graduated from Great Bend High School in 1956, spent the next 17 years working for the Great Bend Tribune and later retired from Superior Essex in 2003 after 25 years of service.

Several years after retirement Helen made the move to Warsaw, Mo. to be close to her daughter and her grandchildren. She enjoyed spending her time at the softball & baseball fields and all over the state of MO proudly repping her Wildcat Grandma gear and cheering on the grands.

Helen had several “adopted” kids and loved bringing them snacks and smoothies before the games, they all loved her dearly and making them smile brought joy to her life. When she wasn’t at the field you might find her at the basketball games, homecoming parades, eating Chinese at her favorite restaurant, baking, or enjoying nature from the back deck of her home. The simple things in life made her incredibly happy.

Helen will be remembered for her one liners, her beautiful smile, and the love she had for others. She didn’t know a stranger and could talk to just about anyone and make a friend.

The 25 years of service with Essex was something Helen was very proud of. She had made many wonderful friends that brought so much joy to her life. Helen spent many years as an active member of the VFW Auxiliary and as an officer in the VFW Cooties volunteering her time to touch the lives of veterans.

Survivors include Susan (daughter) and John Cooner, Joshua and Caitlyn (granddaughter) Bruss, John Joseph Cooner Jr. (grandson), and Kaci Cooner (granddaughter) and Jake Chappell; great grandchildren Greyson Bruss, Janson, and Remington Chappell; brothers Jim, Wallace, and Harold Tiede; sister Jeanette Cribbs, and half-sister Ernestine Butler as well as many other extended family members and friends.

Helen was proceeded in death by her Mom and Dad, Ernest & Ruby Tiede; her brother Ray Tiede and half-brothers Leo Tiede, Richard Tiede and one great grandson Rhett Chappell.

Graveside services will be held at Great Bend Cemetery on March 16th, 2024 at 11 a.m. All are welcome.
