HOISINGTON — Helen L. Jonas, 81, died Jan. 5, at Clara Barton Hospital in Hoisington. Born Feb. 29, 1932, in Pawnee, Okla., she was the daughter of Cecil Cleeve and Elsie Mae ( Feaster) Richmond. A lifelong Hoisington resident, she graduated from Hoisington High School and attended Salt City Business College in Hutchinson. She was a school bus driver for the Hoisington Public Schools for 13 years and later worked at the Great Bend Senior Center until her retirement. She enjoyed making wedding cakes, sewing, gardening, and cooking.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Hoisington, and the Eastern Star. She was involved with EHU, and 4H.
On December 1, 1953 she married Alfred H. Jonas at Santa Fe, New Mexico. He preceded her in death on April 8, 2007.
Survivors include three sons, Steven Jonas and wife Kathy, Kevin Jonas and wife Kathryn, and Shawn Jonas and wife Janet all of Hoisington; two daughters, Sharon Jenkins of Hoisington, and Kathy Reynolds and husband Merle of Dexter, N.M.; 13 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister: Laurene Richmond; one son: Kirk Jonas; two grandsons; and one great-grandson.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home with Pastor Kris Brinlee officiating. Burial will follow at the Hoisington Cemetery. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m., with family present from 6 until 8 p.m., on Wednesday, at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to First United Methodist Church in care of the funeral home.
