HOISINGTON — Helen V. Harmon, 74, died July 25, 2011 at the Kansas Heart Hospital, Wichita.
She was born July 23, 1937 at Geneseo, the daughter of Luis P. and Frances (Gomez) Vasquez. She married Melvin L. Harmon March 2, 1963 at Great Bend. She worked for Cheyenne Hardware as a clerk. She was a longtime Hoisington resident, and a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and Altar Society, Hoisington. She was a Hoisington High graduate.
Survivors include her husband, Melvin L. Harmon, of the home; two sons, Mike Harmon and wife Diane, Hoisington; and Larry Harmon and wife Vicky, Hoisington; two daughters, Elena Hickey and husband Kurt, Humble, Texas; and Angie Winchell and husband Jeff, Humble, Texas; a sister, Dolores (Dee) Mietzner and husband Don, Alma, Neb.; two brothers, Luis A. Vasquez, Hoisington and Robert Vasquez, Great Bend; 17 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Lawrence Vasquez, Joe Vasquez and Steve Vasquez, and a sister, Louise Bohn.
A Mass of Christian burial is scheduled at 10 a.m. Friday, July 29 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Hoisington. The celebrant will be Father Francis Oroffa. Visitation is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday with an Altar Society rosary at 7 p.m., all at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home. Cremation will follow the service with inurnment at a later date at St. John Church Cemetery.
