WICHITA -- Herbert Marlin Wong, 87, retired restaurant owner, passed away July 2. He was a strong –spirited person, a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to many people. He will be missed by friends and family. Herbert Marlin Wong was born in Canton Village, Canton, China, on Sept. 7, 1923.
He immigrated to the United States at the age of 13 and settled in San Francisco’s Chinatown with his father and brothers. After serving in the Army, Herbert went to China to marry Ann. They were married 64 years. He worked hard to provide a life for his wife and four children.
Herbert was a restaurant entrepreneur. He ran his own businesses in Wichita, McPherson, and Great Bend.
He is survived by his wife, Ann Wong; daughter, Pearl (Vincent Moon) and their children, Heather, Kimberly, and Alena; daughter, Lydia (Ron Prichard) and their children, Belinda and Chad; son, Raymond and his children, Lisa, Tiffany, and Ryan; daughter, Jean and her children, Erik, Kimberly, and Kevin;and nine great-grandchildren.
