Imogene Louise Werner 1940-2012

CHICAGO, ILL. — Imogene Louise Werner, 72, died Dec. 11 in Chicago, Ill.  Born Nov. 17, 1940 in Hamilton, she was the daughter of Christopher “Harmon” Meadows and Clara “Louise” (Sanders) Meadows.
She lived in Ellinwood for several years, graduating from Ellinwood High School and later from Kansas State University in 1961.  On Aug. 26, she married Norman Werner.  Imogene started Werner’s Early Childhood Center in Great Bend. She served on the school commission of St. Patrick Elementary School and was a substitute teacher in the Great Bend school system.  Later, she sold real estate for Smith Zeisz Real Estate Co. in South Bend, Ind., and then offered mortgages as a loan officer for Valley American Bank.  The Werners lived in Columbus, Kans., Atlantic, Iowa and South Bend, Ind., and retired in Chicago, Ill.
Survivors include her husband, Norman Werner of Walkerton, Ind.; a son, Mitch Werner and his partner, John Jakupcak of Denver, Colo.; two daughters: Kelly (Gary) Wiederrecht of Elmhurst, Ill., and Hilary (George) Tarasuk of LaGrange Park Ill.; her mother, Clara Louise Meadows of Ellinwood and two sisters, Carol Smith and Sally Bayer, both of Ellinwood, and five grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 4 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church (St. Patrick’s Church) in Great Bend, with Father Don Bedore officiating.  Memorials may be made to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation by mail at 60 East 56th St., 8th floor, New York, NY 10022.
