CHASE — Irene E. “Betty” Gomez, 73, died peacefully with family present on May 31, 2012 at the Rice County District Hospital in Lyons.
Born April 29, 1939 in Steamboat Springs, Colo. she was the daughter of Rolf J. and Lottie C. Urbanovich Harms.
She attended Geneseo schools and graduated from Barton Community College with a nursing degree. On June 11, 1955, she married Kenneth Gomez in Lyons. A resident of Chase since 1958, formerly of Geneseo and Lyons, she was a Registered Nurse, retiring after 35 years for the Rice County District Hospital.
Mrs. Gomez was a former member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Chase and the Governor’s Task Force on AIDS Education and Prevention.
Survivors include her husband Kenneth, of the home; two sons, Anthony and Bev Gomez, Aurora, Colo.; and Christopher Gomez, Manhattan; a daughter, Mary Ann Satterlee, Manhattan; a daughter-in-law, Nancy Cannon,  Geneseo; a brother R.J. Harms, Abilene; a sister Doris Sheridan, Edna, Kansas; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Mike Gomez; and a sister, Mary Connery.
Funeral services are scheduled at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Birzer Funeral Home in Lyons. Burial will be at the Lyons Municipal Cemetery. Friends may visit from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with a Rosary at 5 p.m..
Memorials are suggested to the Rice County District Hospital Swing Bed or Hospice Care of Kansas, all in care of the funeral home.
