Irene June (Curtis) Remmert 1927 - 2012

GREAT BEND — Irene June (Curtis) Remmert, 84, died Feb. 6, 2012 at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Born May 30, 1927 in Hopewell, she was the daughter of Bryant W. and Marie Anne (Ernst) Curtis.
She was a graduate of Byers High School in Byers and St. Rose School of Nursing in Great Bend. She was a Cadet Nurse from 1945 to 1948. On Feb. 20, 1949, she married Robert Charles “Bob” Remmert in Great Bend. He died on Sept. 20, 1997.
A resident of Great Bend since 1945, she was a Registered Nurse for Drs. Don Kendall, Charles Replogle, Wendale McAllaster, William R. Evans, and David Shivel. Irene was a nurturer and loved traveling. She shepherded her children on many family adventures across the United States. The farm girl learned to cook at an early age and could feed an army over a camp fire, but relished fine-dining experiences everywhere she went. Irene was the “travel” grandma who made sure her grandchildren played in the fields of her beloved Pratt County sand hills.
Mrs. Remmert was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, St. Rose Alumnae Association, Volunteer for Reach to Recovery Organization for American Cancer Society, Cub Scout leader and scouting mom.
Survivors include two sons, Rick Remmert and his wife Connie and John Remmert, both of Great Bend; a daughter, Judy Foley, Lincoln, Neb.; seven grandchildren, Tyler Remmert and his wife Ashley, Jenna Remmert Wornkey and her husband Blake; Michelle Remmert, Michael Remmert, Kelsi Remmert, Katherine Foley Stafford and her husband Jason; and Elizabeth Foley; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Hillard Curtis, Wayne Curtis and Glen Curtis; and one sister, Lucille Curtis Garrison.
Funeral services are scheduled at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church in Great Bend with The Rev. Tom Sheldon officiating. Burial will be at the Great Bend Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7 at Bryant Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the Great Bend City Parks, the Great Bend Public Library or the American Cancer Society, in care of the funeral home. Condolences may be sent and notice viewed at www.bryantfh.net.
