Israel “Lalo” Sanchez, age 67 years, of Great Bend, Kansas, passed away early on Saturday morning, February 27, 2021 at Woodhaven CareCenter in Ellinwood, Kansas after a brief illness. Lalo was born on September 18, 1953 at Rio Bravo, Tamaulipas, Mexico to Juan and Antonia (Sanchez) Sanchez. He was united in marriage to Noemi “Mimi” Ramos on March 8, 1980 at McAllen, Texas, and the couple moved to Great Bend in October of 1986. Lalo worked in Road Construction for many years prior to being disabled. He loved playing Bingo, spending time with friends and his grandchildren, and road trips to Mexico.
Survivors include his daughter, Monica Y. (and her husband Victor) Galvez of Great Bend, Kansas; one granddaughter, Jessica Yvette Galvez; two grandsons: Victor Alejandro “Alex” Galvez and Victor Manuel “Trey” Galvez, Jr.; his mother, Antonia Sanchez, of Reynosa, Tamaulipas, Mexico; two brothers: Juan Antonio “Toño” (and his wife Maria Torres) Sanchez of Cicero, Illinois and Juan (and his wife Norma Rosas) Sanchez of Reynosa, Tamaulipas, Mexico; two sisters: Maria del Refugio Sanchez and Rosaura Sanchez, both of Reynosa, Tamaulipas, Mexico; many nephews, nieces and friends. Lalo was preceded in death by his father, Juan Sanchez; his wife, Noemi “Mimi” Sanchez on March 28, 2014; his son, Francisco “Frank” Sanchez on November 2, 2020; and his sister, Maria del Angeles Sanchez on May 18, 2016.
Graveside Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, March 2, 2021 at the Great Bend Cemetery North in Great Bend, Kansas with Father Don Bedore officiating.
Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Monday, March 1, 2021 at Charter Funerals in Great Bend, Kansas with a Rosary Service at 7:00 PM. Memorials may be directed to the Israel “Lalo” Sanchez Funeral Expense Fund in care of the funeral home.
