HOISINGTON — Jacqueline Ann “Jackie” Walter, 94, died August 18, 2020, at Country Place Senior Living, Hoisington.  She was born June 12, 1926, in McCook, Nebraska, the daughter of John B. and Marie B.  “Mabelle” (Amen) King.  Jackie attended the Universtiy of Nebraska  and received her bachelor degree in the college of music education. It was here that she met and married her husband I.C. “Ike” Walter. Jackie was privileged to study voice at the UNL with the renowned Dr. Arthur Westbrook. She was a member of the University of Nebraska Singers for four years and sang in the University Production. She was past president of Delta Omicron National Sorority and was a member of the Opera Carmen.

On December 18, 1948, she married Iven C. “Ike” Walter, at the Plymouth Congregational Church in Lincoln, Nebraska.  In 1951 they moved to Hoisington where her husband was employed as the first full time Hospital Adminstrator at the Hoisington Lutheran Hospital.  She was very active in the community and had served as choir director of Concordia Lutheran Church for over fifty years. Singing for weddings and funerals and other special events in the area kept her very busy.  She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi, Social Sorority, Sacs, Social and Cultural Society, and was past president of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League. She served on the board of directors of the Barton County Community Concert Association for many years where she was vice president and drive chairman.  She was a charter member of the P.E.O. chapter GG, and a member of the Tri N Bridge Club. Jackie organized the Labor Day Royalty Night for the Labor Day Queen Contest and was MC for several years of the Royalty Pageant Night.

Jackie worked with her husband, Ike who was the owner and operator of the new Town & Country Supermarket along with Ray and Dolores Deutsch in 1955 and for the next 20 years.  She was then a partner with Ike in the Dairy Queen/Brazier business.

The Walter’s had three children; Becky Steiner and husband Leon of Hoisington, Roxanne Blowers and husband Bill of Hazelhurst, Wisconsin, and Steven Walter and wife Millie of Lawrence; other survivors include; two sisters, Patricia Conrad of Jacksonville, Florida, and Donna Walter of Goodyear, Arizona; five grandchildren, Tiffany Mansholt and husband Everett of Smith Center, Eric Steiner and wife Monica of Great Bend, Amber Crawford and husband John of Hoisington, Randy Walter and companion Sarah Murphy of Deer Creek, Oklahoma, and Ryan Walter and fiancee Korey Krodinger of Rogers, Arkansas; six great grandchildren, Ryker and Reed Mansholt, Isaac, Elijah and Ethan Steiner, and Mayla Crawford.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ike, on January 27, 2017, and a sister, Darlene Clark.

Visitation will be 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, with family to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m.. A Prayer Service at 7 p.m. Friday, all at the funeral home.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 22, 2020, at Concordia Lutheran Church, with Rev. Gary Wolf presiding. Burial will follow in Golden Belt Memorial Park Cemetery.
